IT’S NOT everyday you see elephants walking through the town, holding the traffic up!
But this was certainly the case back in the 60s as they made their way through Victoria Square to Bracebridge to get ready for the circus. Crowds of people gathered and Mr Howard Cheetham, who kindly loaned us the photo, was no exception. He remembers standing in front of the Co-op doors that used to be on the corner with his son in his pushchair watching in awe. In last week’s paper we featured Newcastle Street School which is on the corner of Newcastle Street and Queen Street and which is now a block of ‘luxury flats, and not at St Anne’s Veterinary Surgery as stated.
