IT IS thought the lady is the Duchess of Portland, taken during the early days of the Great War and was one of many events hosted by the estate.

On 10th August 1914, a meeting was held in Worksop Town Hall for Women Helpers to come forward and do their bit for King and Country. Over 300 hundred ladies volunteered to make clothes - usually socks, scarves and gloves for distribution to troops, sailors and refugees whilst nearly another hundred asked to form an ambulance unit.
