College concert series to begin

WORKSOP College will be hosting the Caius College Choir as part of its celebrated Concert Series this month.

Caius (pronounced Keys) College Choir is one of Britain’s leading collegiate choirs and is a mixed undergratuate ensembled directed by Geoffrey Webber.

Live radio broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and 4 form a regular feature of the Choir’s schedule, and broadcasts of Choral Evensong have been notably adventurous – ranging from Baroque anthems to Russian and Greek Orthodox music.

Timothy Uglow, director of music at Worksop College, said he was delighted to welcome the choir to the school.

”It is a great honour to have such a prestigious choir performing in the Chapel at Worksop College,” he said. ”The programme has a range of music from Haydn to Debussy and will appeal to anyone interested in sacred or secular choral music.”

This month’s concert marks a return for the choir to the school after they recorded Shchedrin’s The Sealed Angel with the Choir of King’s College London in the school’s chapel.

This CD is featured as the Editor’s Choice in the June edition of Gramophone Magazine.

Tickets for the 7.30pm concert on Saturday 20th June are priced 8, 7 concessions, 4 children and can be purchased from the Worksop College Enquiry office or on the evening.

For more information contact Mr Uglow by emailing worksopmusic@worksopcollege.notts.sch.uk or by calling 01909 537100.
