And the band played on

LAST week’s picture of a 1950 football team from Worksop’s former Central Secondary School brought back memories for James Latimer, who was one of the lads on the photo.

The 75-year-old, of Ambleside Grange, Worksop, was second from right on the back row.

He said: “Standing next to me on the end of the row is Barry Emmens, and on the other side of me is Tommy Sutton who was the goalie.”

“The tall lad in the middle of the back row is Jack Buckley and the lad sitting in front of me had the surname Thompson, but I can’t remember his first name.”

Mr Latimer, who played in the fullback position, said he believes the teacher pictured with them was Mr Handley.

Mr Latimer worked as a plasterer after leaving school. He said: “I have fond memories of school and I was friends with Ray Pearce who sent the photo in.”

“It would be good to have a chat with him and catch up.”

Mr Latimer is married to Doreen and they have a daughter and two grandchildren.

This week’s Archive Corner photo shows Creswell Colliery Welfare Bugle Band in September 1953.

The musicians look particularly smart in their uniforms and caps.
