It's so dull in the Notts Chamber world of corporate drivel

SOME boring magazine called Network NC drops on my desk with a dull and ominous thud, like a dead body falling on concrete.

What is this glossy rag full of corporate guff and men in suits?

It's the Notts Chamber Of Commerce official newsletter – and a more stodgy, outdated, depressing world would be harder to imagine.

Here we get a parade of pinstriped clones, uncomfortably affecting insincere smiles in stage-managed poses for the camera, living in a 1980s 'Jurassic Park' world of acronyms, consultants and networks.

These guys (and most of them are guys, as equal rights for women haven't quite reached them yet) run immensely dull-sounding businesses across our county.

They live in a stuffy nightmare world of jargon like 'infrastructures' and 'stragetic marketing' and 'preferred status in the public sector' and 'change management' and 'unlocking rapid sales growth'...

Why is the corporate world like this? Why do they all have to wear collars and ties?

Do companies STILL waste good money paying 'marketing consultants' to come along and bore their staff senseless in seminars that can basically be summed up as the 'bleeding obvious'?

Thank God I'm a freelance... with emphasis on 'free'.
