Neil Entwistle's father Cliff - a Bassetlaw district councillor - vowed to continue the fight to prove his son's innocence.
Standing outside the court immediately after the guilty verdict was announced - flanked by his wife Yvonne and other son Russell - Cliff said:

"From the moment the Materazzos' spokesman Joe Flaherty stated, and I quote: 'All we need is the right jury pool', we knew Neil would not receive a fair trial."

"We will continue to fight for our innocent son, with the hope that one day justice will prevail and our little granddaughter Lilly may rest in peace."

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank Elliott Weinstein and Stephanie Page and their defence team for the dedication and the massive effort that they have applied to this case."

"We are not making any further statements at this time and ask that you refer any queries to our lawyer in Boston, Peter Parker. Thank you."

If anyone was expecting the Entwistles to act respectable to the court and to give a dignified response to their son being found guilty, it did NOT happen. Quite the opposite.

Upon exiting the court, the mother told the press that Rachel committed the murder and then killed herself. She also said she KNEW for a FACT that Rachel was depressed.

Why couldn't they of just said something like "we are disappointed that Neil was found guilty" or nothing at all.

I am not concerned about the parents---they are done-stick a fork in them. Neil's younger brother though is going to have to deal with this in many ways as his adult life is just starting.

I personally feel a need to express to you British that I in no way feel anger toward you or consider that somehow you are responsible for this tragedy. I am sure that the other Americans who followed this trial feel the same way.

As a Brit I am frankly ashamed at the Entwistle's parents' insensitive statements after the verdict. The evidence against their son was overwhelming. The verdict was just and right.

There was ZERO evidence before the jury to support the absurd suicide theory floated by the defence in its closing argument. If his lawyers remotely believed their own invented, last minute story they would have put on a defence case and some evidence to support it. They declined to put on a defence case.

Weinstein might have put on a clown's red nose when he floated the suggestion (only in his closing argument mind you and on the basis of no evidence) that Entwistle found the gun on the bed when he discovered the bodies! He didn't even try to explain why his client had told the opposite to the police. Had his client ever said that to anyone?

Entwistle's own words, captured on tape by the police, condemned him and his parents need to face up to the fact that their son is a murderous sociopath. Have they no thought for what their son has put Rachel and Lilian's family through?

How quickly some are willing to throw stones and to choose to be judge and jury, unless you are in the position of the Family you can';t say how you would react on the spur of the moment and under such pressure.

What mother would not want to stand by her son, look a the guy last week with his son and the gun and bullets, he in the end had regret what he did.

Allow the Family some time to come to terms and then they may see matters different, but give them some peace at this most difficult time, something I would never want to experience.

This is one Boston Attorney's prediction that the appeal will fail:

So far, the defense team has indicated that it plans to base their appeal on issues related to the Hopkinton Police Department’s entry into the Entwistle residence in January 2006 without a search warrant, and their retrieval of items of evidence as part of that entry. Legally, these are known as Fourth Amendment “search and seizure” issues, as well as possible privacy issues. While admirable from the standpoint of its zealousness and appellate advocacy, my legal opinion of such an appeal is that will fail.

Legally speaking, the Police Department’s entry into the Entwistle home was justified by what are known as “exigent circumstances” and a related legal concept, “probable cause.” Due to the extensive legal arguments already made surrounding this issue and the legal rulings made following those arguments, it is not at all likely that an appellate court (or the Supreme Judicial Court,) would rule otherwise. Neil Entwistle is not at all likely to live a free and happy life on this earth, ever again.

This one Boston Attorney’s opinion of the performance by Mama Entwistle:

And once again, we have been shown in garish detail how unknowable the human mind (or heart) is: What it is that enables human beings, who otherwise give off not the slightest hint of mental illness or evil, to commit such acts with seemingly no remorse. It is equally horrific – and shameful – to have witnessed Neil Entwistle’s mother, Yvonne Entwistle – stand before a bank of cameras and microphones, and publicly accuse Rachel Entwistle of “murdering” her granddaughter, despite more evidence convicting her son that any prosecutor could ever dream of. How grossly egotistical, and pathetic.

Grossly egotistical, and pathetic. Could not have said it better myself.
