Breakfast bonanza any time of the day

ANY eating establishment which devotes a substantial proportion of its menu to different breakfast combinations definitely has my vote.
So I needed little persuasion to visit the newly opened London Cafe in Worksop, after seeing the said dishes advertised in the window.
In fact ‘all day breakfast aficionados’ will find themselves spoilt for choice as the comprehensive menu caters for all tastes and appetites.
But, there’s more to the Bridge Place cafe than just breakfast, for a glance at the menu shows an impressive line-up, whatever your gastronomic needs.
For those wanting a lighter bite, there are hot and cold sandwiches, hot toasties, jacket potatoes and ‘mini’ breakfasts, while those needing a more substantial meal have an even more difficult choice.
These include (in addition to the full breakfast choices), a range of meat grills (liver and bacon, pork, lamb, gammon and steak), house specials (including butterfly chicken, shepherds pie and lasagne), roast dinners, and a selection of burgers and pies.
A children’s menu is also available.
Service at the London Cafe is very efficient, as my two colleagues and I had barely finished looking at the menu before a waitress arrived to take our order.
Feeling in need of something hearty, I went for the London Special Grill, comprising egg, two burgers, onions, tomato, mushrooms, beans and chips (£4.50).
My companions went for the omelette breakfast (plain omelette, tomatoes, beans, bacon, hash browns and toast, £3.50) and lamb grill (lamb chop, tomato, mushrooms, chips or mash, peas and gravy, £5).
However, we were told that the lamb was unavailable, so fried chicken was ordered as a replacement.
After not too long a wait, and a complimentary cup of tea later, our meals arrived.
My grill was indeed a plateful, the ideal remedy to banish the Monday lunchtime hunger pangs.
It was nicely cooked, the only quibble perhaps being that the plate could have been hotter.
The other two dishes also met with approval from my companions, the fried chicken in particular making up for the disappointment of the absence of lamb.
As the time to return to the office beckoned, and feeling nicely full, we decided to forgo a dessert.
A pity because there was another decent selection on offer, including apple and cherry pie, pancakes, cheesecake, chocolate cake, and a variety of ice cream sweets, priced at £2.20.
With our meals totalling £13, the London Cafe represents value for money, and is likely to become a regular lunchtime refreshment stop.
