Worksop to star in ‘Coppers’ show

WORKSOP’S beat bobbies will be the subject of a television documentary tonight (Monday).
Channel 4 series Coppers will provide an insight into the life of neighbourhood policing, as officers tackle shoplifters, burglars, drunks, anti-social behaviour and intractable disputes between neighbours.
And the show will see officers often finding themselves dealing with same people time and again.
Inspector Steve Cartwright is fed up with career criminals with no respect for the police or society, and is sick of dealing with neighbourly disputes.
He said: “Since when has dog poo outside your house been a police matter? We all joined to be cops, not social workers.”
Against the background of budget cuts, low morale and rising crime the documentary shows officers on the front line and what they think about 21st Century policing in Britain.
PC Christian Hurley has been on the beat team for three years and admits it was a culture shock when he first joined.
“Seeing needles and spoons with heroin in people’s houses used to be shocking, but you get used to it,” he said. “It’s a case of wipe your feet on the way out.”
PC Dan Cooper, 26, is the youngest officer on Worksop’s neighbourhood team.
He said: “Society’s gone a bit by the wayside. We all get called offensive names, being spat at is the worst - you just have to detach yourself from it.”
The documentary will air at 9pm on Monday 23rd January.
