Issues with Coppers

WITH reference to Coppers on 16th and 23rd January, I have to say I’ve never seen such a disgraceful show about the police.

In the episode that was based in Worksop, there were three issues I feel I must comment about. (The two couples who were at loggerheads) too much emphasis was put on the husband and wife, have people forgotten the other couple had been subject to an ASBO to which the courts don’t issue without good cause?

(The young lad who hit his mother) he is under 17 and a minor and they shouldn’t have shown his face on television. This could lead him open to bullying. But the icing on the cake was Inspector Cartwright’s attempt at humour by using his tie as a noose. There have been many cases of young people taking their own lives whilst in some form of custody through hanging themselves in their cells. His disgraceful behaviour at the end of the programme isn’t the sort of example that a senior police officer should be showing junior officers.

On the previous week’s episode, there was a street disturbance involving a 14 year old lass who had been drinking, to which I did agree that she was very out of order. The Nottinghamshire police officer warned her that if she used foul language she would be arrested and rightly so. The next instance, the same officer pushed her from behind and then swore at her. How can it be that there is one law for the police and another for us?

I am not for one minute anti-police, I appreciate that they have a very difficult job, but when they constantly bleat on about how the public don’t respect them, or how they are hated, they only have themselves to blame.

My generation go on about how we had respect for the police, well it is true we did, but back in the 60s, 70s and 80s there wasn’t this modern drinking culture and that’s part of the problem.

When the issue of alcohol is addressed in the UK maybe then we can get back to a decent society.
