CLOWNE Wildlife Group: Thinking of joining a group, then why not join Clowne Wildlife Group. Our meetings are held in the school room of Clowne Methodist Church. Nigel Slater will be starting our 2013 programme of activities with a talk on Attenborough Nature Reserve which is near Nottingham. The reserve has a wide variety of habitats and has good facilities and access. All talks start at 6.30pm and are FREE entry. Light refreshments are available. BASSETLAW Astronomical Society, Village Hall: At the last meeting: Discussions: A review of 2012 and coming events in 2013, comets, minor planets, conjunctions. Visibilities: the Moon and the planets for the next two weeks - Jupiter, the Moon and Saturn. Members observations: Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Sunspots, the Moon and a halo. The main event was the Annual General Meeting. The old committee was re-elected. David Wilson became Webmaster.

WHITWELL Local History Group: On 8th January Mr Paul Owens gave a film show on his research into advertising posters over the past Century. His interested audience were able to relate to many of the advertisements as they were displayed on Railway Stations, magazines and newspapers during the middle years of the 20th century. Many were in rich colour which tempted their observers to try the delights of “Five Boys” chocolates, and naughty but appealing puppies stealing Nestles Milk. Bovril, Zip tonic water and Schweppes ginger wine were followed by the assurance that “There’s nothing like it - Vimto.”
On 22nd January George Webster will give a talk about The Thirties in Colour.
